Reelhouse plays your own Plex library. It has no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party SDKs, and you don’t create an account with us. This page lists every place the app sends information, what goes there, and how long it’s kept.

Reelhouse is made by Ember Studios, LLC (“we”). Questions about this policy go to support@emberstudios.dev.

Plex

Reelhouse talks to Plex to sign you in and play your library.

  • Sign-in happens on Plex’s own link page (plex.tv/link). Reelhouse never sees your Plex password. The access token Plex returns is stored in your device’s Keychain and removed when you sign out.
  • Your server: browsing, playback, watch progress, subtitles and connection tests go to your Plex Media Server, directly or through Plex’s relay when you’re away from home. Searches you type in Reelhouse go to your server.
  • Plex’s services: your server list, Home users and Watchlist come from plex.tv and Plex’s discover service. Trailers are found by searching Plex’s catalogue for upcoming movie titles, then streamed from Plex’s video servers.
  • Plex identifies the app by a random ID created when you install Reelhouse, plus the app name, version and device type. We never receive your Plex token.

Plex’s handling of your account is covered by the Plex privacy policy. Reelhouse is not affiliated with Plex, Inc.

Air dates, cast and movie details

Air dates, upcoming episodes, cast pages and upcoming movies come from TheTVDB, through a small service we run on Cloudflare so the app doesn’t carry TheTVDB’s key.

  • The app sends TheTVDB or IMDb IDs of shows and movies in your library. For a show that has no such ID, it sends the show’s title and year as a search. It also sends cast members’ names to find their pages, and your device’s country and language to list upcoming movies.
  • No account, token, device ID or Plex information is sent with these requests.
  • Our service keeps TheTVDB’s answers, including the search text that produced them, in a shared cache so repeat lookups are fast. Cache entries are not linked to you or your device, and expire about 30 days after they were last used.
  • Your IP address is used briefly to rate-limit requests and is not stored with the cache. Cloudflare keeps request logs, which include the requested address, for a limited time under Cloudflare’s policy.
  • Posters and logos from TheTVDB load directly from TheTVDB’s image servers.

Send Feedback

Nothing is sent until you choose Settings › About › Send Feedback and press Send. A report contains:

  • your message, if you write one;
  • your Plex username and profile name, and your Plex server’s name and whether you’re connected locally or remotely;
  • your device model and system version, and the Reelhouse version;
  • your playback settings and your last measured connection speed;
  • recent playback logs, which include the titles of recently played episodes and movies, Plex item IDs, and playback errors. Plex tokens are removed from the logs before they’re sent.

Reports are stored in our private Cloudflare storage and deleted automatically after 30 days. The app shows a six-character code when a report is sent. If you wrote a message, a summary goes into our private issue tracker on GitHub so we can work on it: your message, your Plex username and profile name, device, app version, settings, and the titles of your last few plays. Those summaries are kept until we delete them. To have a report or summary deleted, email us with its code.

Volume Levelling

Volume Levelling is off until you turn it on. When it’s on, Reelhouse measures loudness on your device, reading audio from your own server.

If you also turn on Share Loudness Measurements (off by default), Reelhouse looks up and shares measurements with other Reelhouse users through our Cloudflare service. It sends only a fingerprint of the media file (a one-way hash of small pieces of the file) and eight loudness numbers, such as the measured level and the audio format. No title, file name, server or account is sent. Shared measurements aren’t linked to you and are kept so that other people don’t have to measure the same file again.

iCloud

If you’re signed in to iCloud, some preferences sync between your devices through Apple’s iCloud: intro and credits skipping, per-show skip settings (stored against Plex’s show IDs, not titles), subtitle, audio and trailer languages, and your Continue Watching choice. This data is stored by Apple in your iCloud account; we can’t see it.

Links that leave the app

  • YouTube: when a trailer is only on YouTube, Reelhouse opens it in the YouTube app, which follows YouTube’s own policies.
  • Find Tickets shows a QR code for a Google search of the movie’s showtimes. Your Apple TV sends nothing; the search happens only if you scan the code with your phone.

On your device

Caches of artwork, schedules and your library, your settings, and size-limited playback logs stay on your device. The logs are sent only as part of a Send Feedback report. Deleting Reelhouse removes all of it.

This website

reelhouse.net has no cookies, analytics or trackers, and its fonts are served from this site. It’s hosted on GitHub Pages, which, like any web host, receives your IP address to deliver the page; see GitHub’s privacy statement.

Children

Reelhouse is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.

Your choices

  • Don’t send feedback, or leave the message empty, to keep your plays out of our issue tracker.
  • Leave Share Loudness Measurements off to keep everything about loudness on your device.
  • Sign out in Settings › Account to remove your Plex token from the device.
  • Email support@emberstudios.dev to ask about, or delete, anything we hold.

Changes

If the app starts sending something new, we’ll update this page before that version ships and change the date at the top.
